Spielberg invades Bayonne

Subliminal Spielberg?

Look into the center of the eye:

Who do you see? Not Dakota or Cruise.
It is some guy dressed in a suit and tie who appears to be standing over someone.

My guess is that it is this guy: H.G. Wells
But I could be wrong.

Speilberg's War of the Worlds is filled with such images. What they mean, I haven't a clue, but they have some subliminal meaning that adds flavor or perhaps is some kind of private joke -- such as the star wars statues in the egyptian scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

As pointed out in another page on this website, Spielberg used this picture reflected in the TV to show Ray was asleep much earlier in the film than first presumed, and in fact, may have been asleep through it all.

Another shows Rob as dynamic, the son is a growing concern -- soon to challenge Ray for courage as the film's hero.

In this same squence we see a train that will later encounter in flames before the ferry crossing scene.

But what does this image mean? Who is this guy? What impression are we supposed to take subliminally from having it flashed before us during one of the action squences?
